Four indulgent cake flavours for Autumn and Winter weddings

Following on from my previous post where I shared my favourite flavours for Spring and Summer celebrations, the changing weather has reminded me that it is time to share my favourites for Autumn and Winter Weddings.

I like to imagine these celebrations involving candles, twinkling lights and cosy moments curled up in front of the fireplace! That’s why I feel rich, unctuous and warming flavours are always a winner during these cooler months. Read on to find out my favourite flavours.

Spiced Apple

Autumn is synonymous with harvest and it is when British apples are at their very best. The recipe for my spiced apple cake includes hearty apple chunks with generous amounts of ground spice and cinnamon buttercream. It is a relatively heavy cake but that’s what makes it so comforting and delicious! It’s basically an apple pie in cake form and I love it!

Clementine and Dark Chocolate

Clementines are at their best during Winter which makes my clementine and dark chocolate cake a popular choice during the autumn and winter. Containing clementine curd, chocolate cream and big chunks of chocolate it is a beautiful zesty cake which is actually surprisingly light in texture.

Sticky Toffee

Always a winner, it’s a warm, snug, hug of a cake! Containing dates and dark brown sugar it is a very tasty, dark gooey cake. As it is so rich and indulgent it often works well as a top tier. Unless, that is, you decide to serve cake as your dessert course. Why not have a separate cutting cake stashed away in the kitchen and serve it with warm custard at the end of your wedding breakfast.

The Wildcard!

In addition to my top three flavour choices above, I was too excited to NOT include this “wildcard” choice. It isn’t technically on our menu but if you are looking for a statement cake for a Christmas wedding with a bonus surprise for your guests when you cut the cake, you might want to consider Mint Chocolate! Just imagine it, red and white stripes of vanilla sponge with mint chocolate buttercream – it smells just like a candy cane and is sure to provide a talking point!

Have I whetted you appetite? If you are joining me for a consultation over the next few months then you may well receive one (or more) of these flavours in your tasting pack.
