Wedding Cakes - Where do we start?!
We thought that, seeing as we have a new website, it would be a shame if we didn’t write some blog posts! We want the blog to be an additional source of information, somewhere where you can go to find out extra nuggets of knowledge and perhaps even provide a little more insight about what happens behind the scenes here at “Cakes by Mrs F” HQ.
So where do we start?! It seems relevant to begin with a few tips on where you can begin your search for your wedding cake designer. As with anything wedding-related, there are a huge number of suppliers out there and it can easily become a little overwhelming and confusing.
Search for local suppliers
The first thing we would recommend is to search for suppliers local to your wedding venue. Whether that be via Google, Instagram, Pinterest etc… Transporting a cake is a delicate business and so booking a cake maker that is based close to your venue reduces the likelihood that anything will happen to your cake in transit (although most established cake makers will have processes in place to ensure you cake arrives in a pristine condition no matter the distance)! Booking a supplier local to your venue has the added benefit that they are likely to know your venue very well which makes access and set-up much more straight-forward.
Attend wedding fayres and open days
Many venues host wedding fayres or open days and they are well worth a visit. You will often come across suppliers that are recommended by that particular venue and it will give you the chance to speak to them in person and perhaps even try a few samples!
Decide what is important and narrow down your search
Now comes the tricky part – what is it that you really want from your wedding cake? Are you looking for a traditional tiered cake or are you after a something with a bit more novelty? Do you want lots of choice when it comes to flavours or will vanilla/chocolate do? Is budget a big deciding factor? Every cake maker has their own unique style at their own particular price point and will also offer a specific list of flavours. Work out what is important to you so you can start to narrow down your list of favourites.
Enquire
Narrowed down your favourites? Great. Now comes the time to enquire. Send a message or make a call (we prefer an email rather than a phone call/Instagram message so that we can keep track of all of our enquiries in one place). Don’t forget to detail your wedding date AND venue – our availability is not only dependent on the date but also on the location.
And there you have it – it really is a piece of cake!
Thank you for reading our first ever blog post – we’re excited to see where this will lead so be sure to pop back for more cake-related content in the future!
